What is Mindfulness?
‘Mindfulness’ is at the very heart of meditational practice and trains us to focus on the present moment. This allows us to gain insight into mental patterns that sometimes cause negative emotions. We also learn, through experience what it means to spend less time with our thoughts and spend more time in our bodies enjoying life. It can be practiced by people from all walks of life and is becoming more and more popular as a means of psychological treatment. There is now a strong evidence base demonstrating that it can be very beneficial for those experiencing depression and anxiety, as well as many other conditions. Mindfulness allows us to make friends with our thinking mind making us less vulnerable to negative mental activity. Such practice can bring about a deep sense of inner peace and a fresh acceptance of reality itself.
The Eight Sessions
This new and innovative group will take place over eight weekly sessions, each of 2-hours duration and covers the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation, applied theory and practice. Some aspects of CBT will also be used within the course syllabus where required to help group members to deal with dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviours. This specific group has been successfully taught in several London universities and also within the NHS. This group will help you to:
- improve your focus and concentration levels
- lower bodily stress and increase relaxation
- explore how your mind works
- explore how your mind habitually creates unhealthy thought processes and worry
- help you to prevent the arising of depressive moods before they spiral
- achieve a robust and healthy mind, accepting reality and the world around you
- work towards acceptance of unhealthy emotions
- achieve a deep sense of calm, patience and stillness
- grow and mature as a true human being and explore what it means to be ‘me’
This will be particularly helpful for those people experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, attention problems or any condition involving a fast-thinking anxious mind.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Commitment to the full x8 weekly sessions is imperative, as is the diligent undertaking of daily life meditation tasks between sessions. Only those people who are willing to make the commitment and complete the between session tasks should attend. Places are limited to ensure a high quality of client support. This course is open to everyone but attendance must be booked in advance and approved by the course leader before the beginning of the programme. All attendees must be 18+ with any exceptions discussed prior to the beginning of the course.

Make sure you keep the evening (from 7pm to 11pm) of 11th February free in the your diaries for our amazing Barn Dance/Ceilidh hosted by the equally amazing Central London Outdoor Group – a not-for-profit group run for members by members – see our website: Central London Outdoor Group.
A top live barn dance band (3 musician plus caller) band will be performing at this special event – The Wraggle Taggle Band. http://www.wraggletaggle.com/.
Never been to a barn dance before? No problem – the caller will teach you everything you need to know.
The barn dance will be at a fab venue in Highgate with plenty of space for dancing, good acoustics and a separate lounge for when you want to sit out a dance but still watch the action. We also get the use of a kitchen for food, drinks and snacks. You can bring food and drink to share (like we do at picnics).
Ticket sales will be opening in January. Tickets will be priced at the ridiculously low price of £13 per head (or £12 per head for members of the Central London Outdoor Group).
How to buy tickets? See: http://www.clog.org.uk/p/barn-dance.html
The total number of tickets will be capped at 70 to ensure there is plenty of space for dancing.
Sandy and Bruno met in the seventies. She was fame hungry, he was doomed to follow her. As one hit wonders, this is a story of their big come-back. With Sandy’s determination and Bruno’s blissful devotion to her, they are here; not by popular demand, but by sheer defiance. With striking aesthetics and a rousing soundtrack, The Band is a quirky, humorous display of desperate ambition and blind affection.

the art deco ball
Cassellah Presents The Art Deco Night Owls in association with Nikki Santilli.
The Art Deco Night Owls are specialists in the recreation of the music and atmosphere of the exhilarating Roaring 20s Jazz Age into the Swinging 30s. Said by an appreciative public, to effervesce like sparkling Champagne!
The Hot Dance Orchestra comprises eight talented multi-instrumentalists playing vintage instruments such as: original vintage era drum kit with period console, Chinese tom, temple blocks, crash/ accent / bell cymbals; bass sax, tuba, string bass – not of course all played at once !!
Banjo, piano, 2 saxophonists-playing soprano, alto, tenor, saxophones, clarinets, cornet, leader trombone
Vocal – Brian Webb one of the very best/most accurate male vocalists covering this period of music, be it as a 30’s crooner or as a driving 20s singer.
With us for The Art Deco Ball we have Nikki Santilli a leading early Jazz dancer to delight us with a dance or two. What will it be?!! Charleston, Blackbottom, Balboa? Most of the music from the period was actually written in Foxtrot rhythm, including perhaps surprisingly, The Charleston, Blackbottom and Varsity Drag!
Come to dance, or just come to listen and soak up the atmosphere, either way we’ll have a Ball!
